How to Prepare for Your X-ray Inspection

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) requires X-ray equipment to be maintained, operated, and inspected safely. State-qualified inspectors help ensure your facility meets Colorado regulations and that your equipment is functioning properly.

During an inspection, you may be asked to provide:

  • Records from previous inspections. For newly installed machines, a report of assembly from the installer or vendor may be required.
  • Dosimetry badges and reports, or proof of an approved exemption.
  • A list of approved machine operators, including their credentials or training documentation.
  • Shielding design documentation, if required by the state.
  • Proof of an annual radiation safety review.
  • Technique charts and safety procedures available in the control area.
  • QA documentation for film processors, if your facility uses one.
  • A radiation survey meter, such as a Geiger counter, for analytical machines.

Preparing these items in advance helps make the inspection process smoother and ensures your facility stays compliant with state safety requirements.
